Hi everyone. We’re co-hosting a one off special tweetchat on Monday night, as well as our usual Tuesday chat this week.
#fallschat – Falls Prevention Monday 4th Feb 8-9pm (and live tweets during day from falls prevention conference – “Inside the Circle”)
We’re hosting #fallschat in partnership with Kent County Council and the NHS and will follow on from a one day conference being held in Kent earlier in the day. The day event will look at the issues around best practice in falls prevention and kicks off some work to address the fact that there has been a 59% increase in reporting of hospital related falls admissions over the past 6 years in Kent and Medway.
The 8pm #fallschat will be co-hosted by @uk_james an occupational therapist now working in adult social care strategic commissioning.
We will cover:
- Your story of falls – have you ever fallen or know someone who has?
- Top tips for preventing falls – practical tips, advice for older people
- What kinds of falls prevention services or support should be available for older people living in our communities? Are there any examples of things being done now that are proven to benefit people?
To read more about falls prevention you can visit the Prevention of Falls Network Earth at www.profane.co and on twitter @ProFane2
Extra daytime #fallschat if you’re interested from the “Inside the Circle” conference – 9.30am-4pm
@KentSocialCare will be tweeting live from the conference during the day 9.30am-4pm so you’re very welcome to join in on Twitter too then – all 100 delegates are being encouraged to tweet from the event too using the #fallschat hashtag. Tweets are being projected for all to see during the day so please do contribute to the discussion and say hello to everyone!
The programme for the day event can be found at: https://shareweb.kent.gov.uk/Documents/adult-Social-Services/Inside%20the%20Circle%20Programme%20for%20participants.doc
Dr Dawn Skelton, Professor of Ageing and Health from Glasgow Caledonian University, national expert in falls prevention, will be speaking between about 11.05 and 11.35am, so don’t miss the conference tweets around that time on hashtag #fallschat. More about Dr Skelton at http://www.gcu.ac.uk/hls/staff/professordawnskelton/
Presentations will be posted after the event so we’ll post the link here when it’s available. We’ll also post a link to a new short video which gives older people’s views on what it’s like to have a fall and what they thought of the services available to support them from having another, when it becomes available. We have started a storify with links to some resources and will be building on these as the day progresses and will include tweets and resources. http://storify.com/OTalk_Occhat/fallschat-4th-february-2013-2014
Look forward to seeing you there!
